Make your own pocket, planet, and people friendly laundry detergent!
We started doing our own laundry as part of our chore list (ugh...chores) a few years ago. We still need help because we can’t reach the dryer…also we don’t like folding our clothes but that is another story.
It made us realize how much laundry detergent we use and how many plastic jugs we would buy. It turns out that recycling plastic doesn’t work very well. And it’s expensive….my parents are always reminding us to “NOT WASTE THE DETERGENT!”. Plus one day, we tried to read what was in all the store bought laundry detergent…we couldn’t pronounce even one of the ingredients (one was literally called Methylacrylamideopropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride copolymer).
So why are we using stuff that is bad for the planet, bad for our wallets (well, our parents’ wallets) and using a bunch of additives that are likely not good for our skin?
Our mom started making our own laundry detergent a few years ago and we can’t believe how easy it is. It’s cheaper, uses less plastic, has ingredients our mom knows and we add essential oils to make it smell nice. We don’t want to feel bad when we take a nice clean shirt out to wear.....with home made laundry detergent, we don't have to! And now we want to get to you to make laundry detergent at home and share this feeling!
When we teach people how to make their own laundry detergent,
they are helping our planet and their pockets!
Store detergent costs 25c per load. Making it at home means it's just 2-3c a load. That's ten times cheaper!
9-10% of single use plastic bottles of detergent get downcycled. Plastic stays on earth forever! Pollution due to transportation and harmful chemicals of detergent is reduced too!
Better for our skin with chemicals that you know! Good for people with sensitive skin and allergies!
We are the Soaper Heroes, a team of children from ages 7-13 working to reduce our carbon footprints by getting folks to switch from store bought laundry detergent to home made laundry detergent. We all love dogs, dance, reading, skiing and learning new things! We try and live by the values of being kind to everyone, working hard and smart and the use of to do lists. They are extremely helpful!
